Positive Aging Week
To celebrate Positive Aging Week, Clonberne Community Development Committee is organising an event on Thurs. Sept. 30th from 6pm onwards.
From 6pm to 7.30pm, people will be invited to look at the facilities in and around the sportsfield and Enterprise Centre: pitches, dressing rooms and stand, playground, new walking track, new footpaths and street lights, West Hub and Resource Office. From 6pm to 7pm they can also visit the cemetery and identify unmarked plots, as map will soon be ready to erect. They can move indoors then for refreshments and check out our collection of local history books. At 7.30pm Peter Keaveney, Mayor of Co. Galway, will launch our local history dvd, Clonberne, A Glimpse of our Past.
It's an evening to reconnect with people and with the amenities in our village, after 18 months of coccooning, lockdowns and isolation. All current Covid guidelines will be followed.
Crime Prevention Advice.
Do not under any circumstances give you details to people over the phone purporting to be from government departments, Text messages from Couriers or Numbers you do not recognise. These are fraudsters who are phishing for your information. If in doubt hang up and ring the department they are saying they are from to verify their identity.
A draft map of the cemetery will soon be available for people to see. Please take time to look at it.
All headstones have been recorded as they are. There are many unmarked plots. People have given
us information about some of them, from memory. If you can identify more, it`s still not too late to
include them. Contact us on 083 0948389 if you can help.

Clonberne yearbook 2021
Reminder to all club secretaries and individuals: Please get your articles, photos etc. to us by end of
September, to allow time for editing. These can be sent to firstname.lastname@example.org or given to any
member of committee.
Our focus this year is on Clonberne 2021, its people and places. Because events and activities were
so restricted for most of the year, we decided to use Clonberne 2021 as our theme. Thanks to all of
you who cooperated with the “census collectors” and gave information about the people in your
house; it was also great to see neighbors coming together for townland photos. We are including
little snippets of interesting information about the townlands. If you have old stories or photos from
your area ( wedding photos, stories about someone who left the area, little bits of history etc. ), send
them to email@example.com or contact the person who called to you collecting census
PISREOGA / OLD CUSTOMS
There is a section in Clonberne 2021 on old customs and pisreoga. We all know lots of them. Jot
them down as they come into your head. Maybe we will get some duplications, but, the most
important thing is to collect as many as we can, before they are lost.
If you / your company would like to place an advertisement in this year`s book, please contact us.
Business card size costs €25. A single line is available for €5.
LOCAL HISTORY COLLECTION
We are putting together a collection of books of Local Historic interest. A huge thanks to those who
have donated books already. If you have books that you are prepared to give, let us know. You can
contact us on 083 0948389 and we can collect them. This will be available for people to borrow for
